Window Scene, Kongei, Tanzania.  I was struck by this scene when I first saw it.  At a glance all it is is a plant on a windowsill, but look closer, what do you see?  I see poverty; there are no funds for simple things like curtains or pots, but in this I also see resourcefulness.  I see simple architecture, but also a taste for aesthetic in the thought out colors and the design of the pane.  I see fear of intrusion, perhaps the money saved from using a bedsheet and cooking oil jug was enough to buy bars for the windows.  I see hope and happiness, without these two feelings there is no reason to pot a plant.
